Walter Caldwell was born about 1890. Before the outbreak of war he worked for Mr H Smith, Wheat Hills Farm, Mackworth. He joined the 9th Sherwood Foresters on the 18th August 1914 and was promoted to Acting Sergeant on the 24th January 1917.
He was married on the 7th September 1914 to Alice Smith.
He was discharged from the army on the 23rd March 1919. His final address was given as The Post Office, Stanton by Bridge, Derby
